Year 3 & 4 - Ruby

Welcome to Ruby Class!

We are an excited set of learners with some of us just embarking on our Key Stage 2 journey! There are 24 children in our class made up of year 3 and year 4 children. Mrs Bowey teaches us every morning for all aspects of English, Maths, PSHE and French and for Science one afternoon. In the afternoons we are taught the foundation subjects from a range of our school teachers.  We started the year off with a History topic on the Romans and we have now moved onto Mapping Skills which is a Geography topic . PE days this year are on a Monday and Thursday.  We have a busy and fun time in school with interesting lessons inside and outside the classroom. Our focus is to become more independent now we are in Key Stage 2. The children have the opportunity to apply for a job - we take pleasure in giving up our time to help the grown ups in school.

Much of our writing in English is based upon our reading. This term we have read The Fastest Boy in the World by Elizabeth Laird and we are now reading I Was a Rat by Philip Pullman. We are enjoying using this book in our Guided Reading and English lessons. Reading is really important - we promote reading in a variety of ways.  In our classroom we have a special Reading and Wellbeing area and have many fiction and non fiction books out for us to read. We often visit our school library where we can loan a range of fiction and non-fiction books and this term we also  visited or local library in  Parbold.  Each week we are set reading challenges to complete and love collecting our raffle tickets for the Friday Assembly draw. We are all striving to become confident and fluent readers.

We work very hard in Ruby class to ensure each child reaches their potential across all areas of the curriculum. We have a happy, calm, hard-working learning environment, where every child feels valued and secured. We all know what we need to do to make progress and to do our very best.  We encourage resilience, perseverance and an 'I can'  attitude! Our teachers encourage us to achieve our targets and to be proud of the wonderful work that we do. Have a look around our classroom and in the corridor to see some of our fantastic work. We are always very excited to find out who is 'Star of the Week' and Dojo Champ of the Day. The Dojos are collected at the end of the week and added to our team points. We are excited to see which team is in the lead!

We are so keen to collect knowledge and new vocabulary. Our Knowledge Journals are a great way to record our learning and we love our end of term quizzes to see how much we have remembered. Our classroom is covered in high quality vocabulary.

Our homework is given out on a Monday and then due back in the following week. Every night we aim to read our books, practise our spellings and multiplication tables.  This half term we have a creative homework linked to our unique self! Children are to work on this at home and then bring the homework in to school for our Grand showcase! This half term it is on Friday 15th December.

Take a look at our yearly curriculum overview below for further information on the topics being covered and to see photos of our latest activities.
