Welcome to
Richard Durning's Endowed Primary School

Headteacher’s Welcome

Welcome to Richard Durning’s Endowed Primary School and Nursery.

A small school with a big heart, our children here are known as individuals and supported to flourish academically, socially and emotionally. There is a strong sense of pride in providing a calm, caring and inclusive environment where every child feels safe, valued and encouraged to achieve their very best.

Our curriculum is ambitious and carefully designed to inspire curiosity, build confidence and develop resilience and independence.

Strong partnerships with families are at the centre of school life, as working together is key to every child’s success.

We are proud to offer our fantastic on-site nursery, Durning’s Ducklings – /nursery.

Families are warmly encouraged to book a visit and experience the school for themselves.

History

The school was built in 1692 with £100 left by Richard Durning in his will. For many years it catered for all age groups and was originally planned as a free Grammar School. It did not materialise in this way but became a Public Elementary School and was recognised as such in 1870, the year of the first Education Act.
