Vacancies

Caretaker / Site Supervisor

Richard Durning’s Endowed Primary School, Parbold

Start Date: 1 April 2027 (there will be an informal handover period prior to this date)

Following the retirement of our long-serving caretaker, we are seeking a reliable, practical and proactive Caretaker / Site Supervisor to join our friendly school community.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, welcoming and well-presented environment for children, staff and visitors. We are looking for a person who can work independently, manage their own workload and has excellent attendance and punctuality to become a valued member of our school team.

Hours

27.5 hours per week

Typical working pattern:

  • Morning: 6.30am - 9.00am
  • Afternoon/Evening: 4.00pm - 7.00pm

We can offer flexibility regarding exact start and finish times.

There are sometimes other commitments. Occasionally, support may be required for school events, PTFA events or the annual Parbold Hill Race, trips and visits, events and residentials. These will either be voluntary or paid for.

Salary

Will be National Living Wage based on current rates, paid monthly throughout the year.

Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme is available.

Annual Leave

Annual leave entitlement is equivalent to 176 hours per year and can be taken during school holiday periods.

The successful candidate will have considerable flexibility in arranging their holiday and working pattern during school closure periods. For example, holiday maintenance work can be completed through longer working days rather than attending daily.

We would also be willing to discuss:

  • A term-time only contract
  • Minor adjustments to working hours

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer additional contracted hours beyond those advertised.

Main Duties

The role includes:

  • Opening and securing the school premises
  • Daily cleaning duties, including classrooms, communal areas and bins
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the school
  • Routine building and grounds inspections
  • Ensuring IT equipment is accounted for and left on charge every evening
  • Carrying out minor repairs, maintenance and DIY tasks
  • Painting and decorating as required
  • Preparing the hall each day for lunchtime use
  • Weekly health and safety checks, including fire alarm testing and playground inspections
  • Monitoring site security and reporting concerns
  • Liaising with contractors and service providers
  • Reporting maintenance issues and arranging repairs through the school's property management systems
  • Ordering site and cleaning supplies
  • Completing mandatory training and maintaining required records

About the Role

The caretaker is a keyholder and plays an important role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the school. You will work closely with the Headteacher and be trusted to manage much of your own workload and priorities.

This role would suit someone who:

  • Is practical and hands-on
  • Can work independently
  • Has excellent attendance
  • Has good organisational skills
  • Takes pride in maintaining high standards
  • Has experience of maintenance, caretaking, facilities or a similar role (desirable but not essential)
  • Enjoys being part of a small, friendly school community

What We Offer

  • A welcoming and supportive team
  • A high degree of autonomy and flexibility
  • Opportunities for training and development
  • A varied and rewarding role at the heart of school life
  • The chance to make a real difference to the environment in which our children learn and thrive

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and encouraged.
