New Emergency Medical Equipment Added to Enhance School Safety

At Richard Durning's Endowed Primary School, the safety and wellbeing of our pupils, staff and visitors is always our highest priority.

As part of our ongoing commitment to being prepared for medical emergencies, the school now holds emergency adrenaline auto-injectors (EpiPens) on site. These are stored above the water cooler in the main corridor and can be accessed quickly by trained members of staff if required.

Although we do not currently have any pupils with a known allergy requiring an adrenaline pen, guidance from organisations such as Anaphylaxis UK encourages schools to be prepared for the possibility of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) occurring for the first time. Having emergency medication available provides an additional safeguard and may be used under the guidance of the emergency services in a life-threatening situation.

We would also like to remind families and members of the wider community that our public access defibrillator and emergency bleed control kit are located at the front of the school. These facilities are available for community use as well as for the school.

In the event of a medical emergency requiring access to either the defibrillator or bleed control kit, call 999 immediately. The emergency call handler will provide the access code and offer guidance on using the equipment until professional help arrives.

While we hope these emergency resources are never needed, they form an important part of our commitment to ensuring that the school and local community are as well prepared as possible to respond to serious medical incidents.
